Like many travelers, our 2020 travel plans had to be adjusted due to the current health pandemic. With the air travel restrictions, Marco and I decided to cancel our Hawaii vacation this year and take a road trip down to Alpine, California (40 minutes away from San Diego) instead.
With good health, a bag filled with essential cleaning products, hand sanitizer, and masks, we took off to a 4 day, 3 night staycation at Willows Hotel & Spa at Viejas Casino & Resort.
We were incredibly lucky to have their Allure Pool to ourselves for the most part during the duration of our stay, making social distancing possible when lounging, swimming, and sunbathing. Masks were mandatory except when swimming or lounging and everyone entering the pool area had their temperatures checked (much like every other room in the resort). Complementary water bottles and towels were offered and they had a bar right by the pool that only sold drinks.
One word: Supersized.
Every plate we ordered was HUGE and tasteful. These pictures do not do any justice. Viejas Casino & Resort has five different dine-in restaurants. We ate at The Café (far left picture), Ginger Noodle Bar (middle picture), and Baron Long Bar & Grill (far right picture).

Perfect for staying in, their Signature King Suite offered a lounge area and an amazing oversized shower. Both the bedroom and the lounge area had their own TVs!
Location wise, the signature suite rooms faced the entrance of Viejas Casino & Resort while the other (more expensive suites) offered the view of the pool. Another convenient thing about this resort is that it is right across Viejas Outlets! We made our way to the Nike Clearance Store and Gap Outlet.
Room: Signature King Suite

The travel industry was hit the hardest during this health crisis so when choosing your next staycation, as more places open up and we're in the clear to leave our homes while practicing everyday preventive actions, do your research on which hotels and resorts offer big discounts. Also check out the policies on cancellations in case there's new information that may limit travel again and keep yourself updated on which amenities are open as well as limitations they may have on their services. Lastly, it's important to check on yourself throughout your trip, checking for any flu/cold-like symptoms. Get tested for COVID-19 if needed and social distance after your trip.
